BLUE IS SERENE and one of the best choices for all the walls in a room, especially a bedroom. Choose soft, warm blues as pastels can be cold and dark blue can evoke sadness.
RED RAISES ENERGY LEVELS but if too dominant it can also encourage anger and hostility. It’s good for living and dining areas, especially when lamp-lit, but not ideal for bedrooms.
GREEN IS THE MOST RESTFUL with cool greens suited to bathrooms and kitchens. Vibrant greens enliven living areas while soft shades are best for bedrooms.
YELLOW IS BRIGHT AND FRESH and expansive, so it suits hallways and bathrooms but as a dominant shade it’s believed to be taxing on the eyes over a long period.
BLACK AND GREY ARE MODERN and popular but need to be warm and soft to suit an entire room. Black can add drama and deﬁnition but is best used in small doses.
NEUTRALS ARE A BASE in many homes but can be sterile if used exclusively. Warm whites are ideal if furnishings are dramatic or there is plenty of artwork to break it up.
