RD Sweepstakes Winner Donates Prize to Charity
There are times when a single act of charity reminds us there is still so much good in the world.
Every year, Reader's Digest holds our annual sweepstakes draw. The 2010 Reader’s Digest sweepstakes Customer Appreciation and Thank You Bonus prize, worth 2,450,000 pesos was won by a 70 year old Filipino doctor who has donated the entire sum to three charitable activities.
The money will benefit the Shriners Crippled Children’s Program at Shriners Children’s Hospital, medical/surgical missions, and indigent trauma victims. Shriners Children’s Hospital provides free medical treatment to children age up to 18 with cleft lips/palate, spinal cord injuries, orthopaedic deformities, and burns. Care is provided regardless of economic level, nationality and race.
Felix Vicuna intends to use his winnings to individually help these indigent patients, depending on their need. He also wishes to stay away from the limelight. "I feel charity is best done anonymously," he says.

| JM Fernandez on 26 April 2011 ,09:37 That's a very nice job Dr. Vicuna for donating such a big amount of money in three different charitable institutions that you won in RD's sweepstakes Customer Appreciation and Thank You Bonus prize. I'm sure that these institutions will help the financial needs of the patients. You will be rewarded a thousand folds of BLESSINGS for having a kind heart. CONGRATULATIONS DR. VICUNA, as a Filipino I'm so proud of you. |
| KMLing on 22 April 2011 ,08:06 Money is the root of all evil as the saying goes. With such a large sum of money greed is there but from Dr Felix's action we can see he really cares for the welfare of those in need. We can see his big donation but what really matters is his bigger heart. This is a real example for those of us who are selfish to rethink our priorities and do some charity to help others no matter how small it is. On behalf of all those who benefit from your donation I would like to say a very heart felt and big THANK YOU to the good doctor although I'm not a Filipino. | See More Comments |
