Like many retirees, Ron and Shaila did their homework on retirement living options prior to making their big move.

Ron and Shaila moved from the town of Bowral in the Southern Highlands of NSW some eight months ago, and while they knew very little about the mid-north coast of NSW initially (and even less about Ocean Club Resort), it hasn’t taken long for the couple to feel right at home.
“Ocean Club Resort is everything that it says on their website” said Ron.
“But you don’t appreciate how good it actually is until you visit. We took advantage of the opportunity to stay for a weekend, to look at all the facilities, and spoke with some of the homeowners, and this reassured us that it was the right move for us”.
Smashing the myths about retirement living
The Resort has been designed to the very highest standards; from the impressive million dollar Clubhouse where you can catch up for an impromptu afternoon drink with friends or even something more formal, to the Club standard six rink bowling green, from the all-weather tennis courts and the heated 25 metre pool, to the fully equipped gymnasium and golf driving nets.
Every day, there are organised group activities that include aqua aerobics, lawn bowls, a walking club, yoga, dance classes, tennis, choir, snooker, mah-jong and more.
You can do as much or as little as you’d like.
“We’ve tended to cruise along” said Ron.
“We use the gym, the pool and the bowling greens, we do a bit of walking together of a morning, and I’ve been having a go on the practise golf nets”.
The opportunity to socialise and meet new friends is one of the features that attracted Ron and Shaila to Ocean Club Resort.
“Shaila and I try and get along once a fortnight to the special happy hour and barbecue at the Clubhouse’, said Ron.
“It’s also a chance to meet some new neighbours in a friendly laid-back atmosphere, which we certainly appreciated when we first arrived”.
The award-winning gated community is just a one hour flight from Sydney or Brisbane, and is a magnet for positive like-minded people, many of whom lead active healthy lifestyles.
“We’ve know neighbours who are planning a 400 kilometre bike tour” said Ron.
“Others go surfing, or jogging on a regular basis. Recently, we’ve organised a few social dinner parties with three or four couples in our street”, Ron added.
“So we’ve made some great friends already”.
One of the other aspects of living at Ocean Club Resort is the climate on the mid-north coast, which has been voted by the CSIRO as the best in Australia, and features cooling sea breezes over the summer, and lots of sunshine over the winter period.
“Bowral used to get pretty cold in winter'” said Ron.
“The previous two winters, Shaila suffered from chilblains, so we’re loving the moderate climate on the mid-north coast”.
A low maintenance home with lots of high end finishes
Of course, the icing on the cake for Ron and Shaila is the home itself, which is low maintenance and comes with a host of high end finishes.
“I’m so proud to have this home – I just love every part of it”, said Shaila.
“The alfresco area – that’s really great! We entertain all the time”.
